This guy pretty much sums it all up in his review. Now I don't have to bother writing one.
All except for when he says the graphis are "great". Socom 1, 2, and 3 have good enough graphics for what it acomplishes. Saying the graphics are 'great" is a stretch on any side of someone's imagination. Well unless they haven't seen and Xbox game with great graphics like Panzer Dragoon Orta or either one of the Halo games..
Socom 3 is amazing. my impressions inside

Ok I'll start out by saying that I'm a HUGE Xbox Live fan. That being said, I was also a beta tester for sony's online service prior to August 2001's launch with Socom. To this day I still think that Socom is really the only great online game for PS2 that could hang with some of the Xbox Live titles. Neither the last two Socom games nor Socom 3 can match the online gameplay of Rainbow Six 3, R63 Black Arrow, Summit Strike, Splinter Cell 2-3, and of course Halo 2 BUT Socom 3 comes oh-so close to some of the best shooters for Xbox Live. Ok, it might be even better than some of the above mentioned in my honest opinion.
I'll start out by saying that Socom 3 is what Battlefield 1942 is to PC. A great and very open shooter but also tight in close combat. The levels are just HUGE and for a system like PS2 that is an amazing feature. The vehicles, which are new to the series handle great too. I seriously think that Socom 3 is what Mercenaries would've been online. I don't think that Battlefield Modern Combat which comes out later this month can even beat this game....that's both for PS2 and Xbox, and I LOVED the online demo for Xbox Live.
The online in Socom 3 is smooth even with 32 players. Oh ya, did I mention that this games runs "smooth" with 32 players on Sony's online network?...YAH! Go figure that one out...?
I mean even Star Wars Battlefield for Xbox Live lagged like crazy with 32 players. Don't even get me going on Black Hawk Down, lol that was just an awful game. Anyway, the graphics are great on/offline. The particle effects are amazing for this aging hardware and rival those in any current gen cosole game.
I played this game ALL day yesterday until about 4am est. I forgot about Xbox Live and I don't think I'll be on it as much as I used to be. Socom 3 has it all, gameplay, huge enviornments, vehicles, graphics, amazing online and that's all on the PS2. I strongly suggest Socom 3 as a MUST BUY for any PS2 owner and also for those that own multiconsoles like myself.
PS: I'll write a more in depth review by the weekend.
